- - The Chief walked from the darkness as a savior. He saw their pleading eyes widen with hope. He whispered to them a plea that implored the great spirits to accept their vanquished and innocent souls, and the words soon eradicated the tension in their rigid, frightened bodies. They became as one with the trance. He felt them surrender to his voice and his touch. It was only then that he laid the knife to their throats and let their blood seep hot and black onto the desert floor. - -
