A Consideration of Solitude and Motion.
When solitude is imposed, it is an unbearable punishment. When it is embarked upon as an exercise of freewill, it is fuel for both the imagination and the intellect. Endurance athletes embrace it; writers and artists crave it; the most beautiful photographs ever taken communicate it.
Not that the world at large reflects it, but I’d argue that bouts of solitude are necessary, even vital. They’re solely responsible for the breakthroughs. It’s how we illuminate the brightest stars of positive thought. Eureka-moments are never the product of a group brainstorming session, and we know all too well that the night sky can only be appreciated when all other light sources are extinguished.
A Portrait of The West.
The pictures here are intentional antidotes to the turbulence of the 21st century - majestic, silent landscapes, endless highways, bluebird skies stretching to infinity, a few condemned and storied buildings - stories in motion, one and all.
Shot mostly at dawn and dusk, the photographs on display here conspire to inform the narrative of the trilogy, Under Western Skies - a first, I believe, to take the visual inspiration of wild and rugged landscape photographs directly to the page where they literally embody the story arcs of every character. A note on sizing: Available now as limited edition works of art, the prints offered for sale have been purposely restricted to specific sizes in order to maximize print quality. Not every image needs to cover an entire wall and conversely no image of merit should ever be subjected to dangle from a key fob or adorn the covering of a throw pillow.
